Itinerary Details

Day 1

Athens – Vouliagmeni Lake (Heraion) – Corinth – Patra

Pick up rental car for self-drive. Visit Vouliagmeni Lake near Corinth (swimming, sea water renewed every 6 hrs). Drive 10-15 mins to Heraion archaeological site (first arched temple to Hera, ancient Corinthian tributes). Drive 1.5 hrs to Patra.

Overnight in Patra.
Day 2

Patra – Kalogria & Kourouta Beaches – Olympia

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive to Kalogria Beach (1 hr; Achaia, sandy beach, Strofilia Forest, swim) and Kourouta Beach (20 mins; swim/stroll). Afternoon drive to Ancient Olympia (1.5-2 hrs) to prepare for exploring the birthplace of the Olympic Games next day.

Overnight in Olympia.
Day 3

Kakovatos, Kaiafa & Yialova – Voidokoilia Beach – Pylos

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive NW Peloponnese coast: Kaiafa Lake (1 hr; thermal baths), golden beaches/hills. Optional swims at Kakovatos Beach (15-20 mins) or Yialova Beach (windsurfing, canoeing). Visit round Voidokoilia Beach (30 mins) before driving to Pylos (30-40 mins).

Overnight in Pylos.
Day 4

Ancient Messene – Kalamata – Kardamili – Stoupa – Areopoli

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive Pylos to UNESCO Ancient Messene ruins (1.5 hrs). Drive to Kalamata (30-40 mins), Kardamili village (45 mins; Mt. Taygetos foot, stone houses/tiled roofs), and Stoupa Beach (15 mins; swim). Conclude drive to Areopoli (45 mins).

Overnight in Areopoli.
Day 5

Diros Caves – Gerolimenas – Cape Tainaron – Gytheio – Monemvasia

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive to Diros Caves (5,000m caverns via boat/passageways), Gerolimenas (“Holy Port”, 25 mins), Cape Tainaron (40 mins; southernmost mainland point views), and Gytheio harbor town (40 mins). Conclude drive to Monemvasia Tower Town (2.5 hrs; Byzantine stone rock).

Overnight in Monemvasia.
Day 6

Monemvasia – Elafonisos

Breakfast at hotel. Stroll Monemvasia castle town. Self-drive to Pounta Port (2 hrs) & ferry (10-15 mins) to Elafonisos island. Swim at Simos & Sarakiniko twin beaches. Visit Panagia for sunset & traditional Greek delicacies before ferry return to Monemvasia (2 hrs total return).

Overnight in Monemvasia.
Day 7

Kosmas Village – Leonidio – Fokianos Bay – Nafplio

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive to Kosmas Village (1.5 hrs), Fokianos Bay (40 mins; turquoise waters, white pebbles), and Leonidio (30 mins; Mt. Parnon foot, 1826 Frankish mansions, geranium/lemon gardens). Coastal drive to romantic Nafplio (2.5-3 hrs; fortresses, narrow streets).

Overnight in Nafplio.
Day 8

Nafplio

Breakfast at hotel. Full day to explore historic/romantic Nafplio: visit ancient castles with legends, explore museums showcasing rich heritage, or take a leisurely walk through old town streets lined with boutique shops, cafés, and restaurants. Minimal local driving (10-20 mins between sites).

Overnight in Nafplio.
Day 9

Mycenae – Epidaurus – Athens

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive to Mycenae (~45 mins; “Golden City”, Lion Gate, Cyclopean walls, royal tombs, ruins). Continue to Epidaurus (~1 hr; UNESCO 15,000-seat Ancient Theatre, acoustics, spiritual/cultural history). Drive back to Athens (~2-2.5 hrs).

Overnight in Athens.
Day 10

Athens Self-Drive Tour and Cape Sounio

Breakfast at hotel. Self-drive Athens (20-30 mins between sites): Panathinaiko Stadium, Zappeion, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Trilogy, National Garden, Acropolis & Museum, Plaka/Monastiraki streets/shops/cafés. Coastal drive to Cape Sounio (1-1.5 hrs) for Temple of Poseidon at sunset, then return (1-1.5 hrs).

Overnight in Athens.
Day 11

Depart Athens
